I'm tempted, but the EMU would limit my music listening to Win2k (I dual boot between Win98SE and Win2k, still using 98SE more often) which would be a pain. I really wish EMU would get in gear with their software drivers, including a cut-down driver for us Win9x throwbacks. The fact that my M-Audio AP 2496 has rock solid drivers available for nearly every OS is a huge plus in my book.

Alright, I contacted my buddy at Guitar Center, and here's the latest:

The price per card is officially set at $165 each, buyer pays shipping. I'll try to do some more haggeling when I get into the store. If that's succesful, you can expect the difference to be paid back to you when your card ships. They currently have 3 in stock, and can order more if I make a deposit on them.

So as of right now, if you want one, send me $165 plus shipping (will be sent USPS priority mail, from zip code 97060....you do the math). The first three to pay willl get their card as soon as I can get to GC and put them in the mail!

I can understand some hesitation in sending your hard earned money to a guy you don't know, and not expecting anything for over a week, so if you'd like to check my references, you can look at my ebay feedback at Zemo5. Well the AP 24/96 is an old card. I don't think the newer M-Audio cards have Win9x drivers.

I think I'm actually going to go into my local guitar center and try to haggle for myself. I don't like haggling, but I don't know when I'll be getting up to portland and I don't feel like paying for shipping. If I can do it myself, I'll save more money

hi folks, i just joined... no more lurking for me

currently i am using the chaintech AV-710 and very pleased with its analog playback. the problem is i have a Piccolo DAC on order from aoselectronics. while i realize this question has been asked numerous times, there was no clear answer to it to speak of : would the EMU card have better digital output than my already bit-perfect AV-710?

haha, nothing is "bit-perfect"....and I'm inclined to believe the 1212m has a far better digital out than most. After some modding done by the guys at emperical audio, they RAVED about the digital output quality...they said it beat anything else they've heard, including the $10k+ stuff they run into.

Is $165 the best you can get?

I am *really* tight on funds (as always around here), and /w shipping included it may not be worth spending the extra cash at this point.

Hm, I think I'll have to sit out on this one after all I'm working on a couple more costly things like upgrading my wooaudio amp and some cheap room treatments.
