pls recommend a good headset for gaming and audiophile

I have been looking around the internet in search of a good gaming/audiophile headset to replace my Plantronics Gamecom 780. Sadly I couldn't find any that suits my needs. I need a headset which is comfortable to put on for hours with balanced bass (a little bit of bass is still acceptable) and treble. I mainly play FPS games and listen to a lot of rock songs (most of the rock genres you guys can think off). Preferably a wired. Any suggestions/recommendations are VERY much appreciated!! :)

Sennheiser HD558 headphones

Recommend to remove the black rubber tape from inside the cups, to make them more open.

Amazon sells used ones starting at $105 (new $123).

I like using this aftermarket cable with my HD558s, comes with a 3.5mm plug.

(length can be between ordered from 1.2 meters up to 3 meters)

+1. @OP: You didn't mention price, so can't suggest anything yet. The HD558s are great for you, though -- they're great for gaming, so I hear. With a simple mod, you could even make them sound like their more expensive brother, the 598.

Hmmm.... Looks pretty decent. Good reviews and stuff after some research. Guess I might give it a go. :) Thank you so much for your suggestion. But if you have other recommendations. Do share with me aight? :)

Well in terms of price..... Umm... Maybe around $150. But what kind of simple mod are you talking about? I am still new to these audio stuff. xD

The HD598s, are awesome on the other hand. As an avid gamer, never ever have to look at the minimap again, because you'll be able to hear their footsteps.

Though it is a little bit pricey. But with the reviews and stuff. Hell.. I think this is good enough! :D Thx a lot dude!

Well, the mod is nothing special. Just some basic DIY stuff. I don't have the 558s, though, so I can't try the mod.

But dude, a lot of guys told me that by doing the mod on the 558, they will sound like the 598, saving you some cash. It's worth thinking about, especially if you don't like the 598's cream-colored plastic.

Oh okay... Well the 598's color is like ugh... Lol. Anyways... Are you talking about the foam mod?

Well... I just watch a video about it on YouTube. Seems pretty simple to do. :) Oh one more thing... They say it will lose the bass control.

I wouldn't worry about that. I'm sure the bass quality will still blow the pants of your Plantronics headset. See the description here of what happens with the mod:

Still seems good to me (I have not tried the mod) smily_headphones1.gif

I'm guessing the black rubber tape that covers 40% of the air holes on the HD558, gives the HD558 a louder bass, but not really a better bass.

To me my HD558 (with tape removed) have just enough bass to be called decent bass, but it's not enough bass for a basshead.

Hardly. The HD 518 IMO seems to have even more bass than the 558.
