I've tried both the stock cable and my Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable to see if there is much of a difference - the hiss seems slightly softer with the stock cable, but it's still definitely there.

As others have mentioned, the UERM is not a particularly sensitive headphone, so it stands to reason that the Hugo wasn't made with most IEMs in mind.  I do like the fact that there are at least a few slight turns of the volume knob before it gets too loud with most sources, which is more than I can say for most portable amps I've heard.

I've used the "lineout" to my Leckerton amp, which eliminates the hiss, but the sound doesn't seem as crisp or as immediate as the Hugo's amp.

I was also annoyed by hissing sound from my Shure SE846. I bought an impedance adaptor from Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/380932180092?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=650274670628&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Now there's absolutely no hissing. Completely black background. The EQ seems unharmed by the adaptor. Maybe the sound is a tiny bit warmer, but it could just be me imagening stuff. One thing worth mentioning is that I had to cut off a bit of the plastic on the adaptor to make it fit the Hugo properly. For 9 $ I recommend everyone to try this sollution. Worked for me.

I don't know why I didn't think of that!  I used to have the Etymotic ER-4P/ER-4S.  Ordered something similar from ebay.  Thanks!

I bought the black Hugo, the AK240 SS and AUD Fi-Ba-SS at Can Jam (saved over $1,000.00).  The AK 240 SS feels like a piece of jewelry in my hand, it is so beautiful got to love it.  It sounds great with my Fibass but it is a touch hot in the treble.  But when I paired it with the Hugo, I swear the hot treble is gone.  It is smooth and clean.  Loving this pairing now.

question head-fier's, does the chord hugo charge the ipod touch or any other apple music dap and to what connection setup? does it also charge the astell & kern ak240ss when connected while plugged in being charge and listening to music? thanks for your experience & info on both hugo & ak240 jalo.smily_headphones1.gif

dear chord hugo, PLEASE in your future upgrade design of the chord hugo(gen 2) or a current own product mail in fix, add the capability of charging my idevice & astell & kern ak dap or some of the other daps on the market. my centrance m8 xl4 does this task with idevices. being the ultimate king of the portable audiophile world, charging a dap should be a standard feature for such a very high end premium amp/dac. for the PS: your product still is very outstanding just wanted to give my wish list request as a owner of a chord hugo. thanks for the info avl06. 👍👍

What's the point? As it is most daps (Sony excepted) will considerably outlast the Hugo when used as portable transport.

Lol.better to have a hugo that accept power banks.you can only charge hugo directly at wallwart.

the point will be satisfied customers/audiophiles & another feature that simply enhances the chord hugo package. can you clarify what you mean by As it is most daps (Sony excepted) will considerably outlast the Hugo when used as portable transport? also on that note what is the life expectancy of the chord hugo? can the battery be replaced after a long period of time when not holding it's charge as a brand new battery at full capacity? these questions is for uzi2.

You can find expected runtimes from all the various manufacturers. They will quote usage as a standalone DAP. When you use your DAP with the Hugo, you are bypassing the DAC and Amp sections, which consume a lot of power. When used in this way many DAPs will run for 24Hrs +, so there is no point in being able to recharge them from a device which will have needed to be plugged into the Wall many hours earlier.

ok,this is my current experience with the chord hugo that i got 3 days ago. it is paired with my apple ipod touch 64gb 5th gen, i have been using this ipod from the first time it came out which is several years ago.the battery takes about about 4 to 5 when used alone but now with onkyo app & pulling 24/192 to the hugo i find the battery drains quicker.no biggie on that though because i simply take a break when the ipod touch needs to be recharge and re-charge it.but the hugo is still ready for more action. this hugo was a calculated and carefully planned along with a lot of research & reading the treads on head-fi for well over a year now for me to purchase it. i must say this is a very very well crafted electronic machine & i can go as far as saying the best money investment i have ever made from the mid 80's to present when messing around with home audio, portable audio and my DJ audio gear equipment hands down. after the first night of a listening session with this brand new hugo i got up very early next morning(3:38am) just to listen to my hugo for it's highly addicted musical ear pleasure. yes, i am very hooked.back to the original subject, to remedy my ipod touch i am going to purchase in several months an Astell & Kern AK240 Stainless Steel to pair with this surreal hugo. azi2 i am only asking questions that i do not know or just making constructive criticism. no personal hacking or bashing of chord hugo intended to you or the company. i have 4 to 5 other portable audio gear that i will be selling because i found what meets my needs & most importantly what i love to hear. will be keeping my apple gear alone from the bunch.

@catoval55 glad you like your HUGO, it is indeed great. If you only want a source for your HUGO there are cheaper option however if you want a stand alone that sounds good and also pairs well with HUGO Astell and Kern are a good choice however beware if you do buy an AK some of the older model do not output 24/192 and they require high quality optical.
