Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

Regarding the A17 I was just looking at the specs and noticed the audio power output is 10 + 10 mW (which if memory serves me right) is twice what the F800/880 series have. (I believe the ZX-1 has 15 + 15mW)

and while I have read that FiiO and iBasso's dap's offer as much as 500mW I have to say I don't really understand what mW per channel means in terms of over all performance, does it relate to volume output or to the ability to more easily drive high impedance headphones or both or neither?

because I have read people say (concerning the ZX-1) that 15mW per channel is weak, but my NW-F807 only has 5mW per channel and is more than plenty loud enough for all my headphones (apart from the DT770 80 ohm version) in which case i use the iBasso D2+ Boa headphone amp).

thanks for any/all info on this subject.

I don't know how is the sound of the newer walkmans that play FLAC, but The FiiO blew walkman signature out of the water (Wolfson WM8740), so i have doubts of buying the walkman A17 (perhaps i can buy a sony portable battery charger to use with my Fiio x3)

The XBA-Z5  IMO same specs as H3, but different materials (i read in the user manual of the H3 that the super tweeter diapragm is made of rigid aluminum)

perhaps the Z5 will have different sound signature, but i seriously doubt, lets see when some one reviews it here

The f800 series are also 10mw + 10mw. Basically the only two things you need from the output power is enough volume and more importantly driving head phones to their full potential. The zx1 has enough power for most iems and portable headphones, but it doesnt have enough power for a dt880 as you said, while the ibasso dx90 or fiio x5 does quite well with the dt880, but still even those daps dont take the dt880 to their full potential, an amp is needed or a high power dap like dx100 or hm901

Never doubt a product until you hear them

But then you have the H3s, I'd also like to see how much of an improvement is made from the H3s.

I would say it's more about headroom
You can listen to a hifiman HE6 through a weak amp but even at listenable volumes it'll feel underwhelming and weak.

wow thanks for all the great feedback (another reason I love head fi !) .I am already sold on the A17 (just for the storage capacity alone).I absolutely love my F807 and so as long as the A17's sound quality is on parr or above that I will be more than satisfied.

though one day I do plan on getting both FiiO and iBasso players as well.but as i'm getting the PS500e in the next two months (then an A17 hopefully in the next few months after that) my funds are presently exhausted.
I'll probably pick up a used X3 or X5 (or maybe a new X1) in early 2015 then after that an iBasso DX50 or DX90. I love collecting headphones and portable players, but it's certainly not an inexpensive hobby

Yep, they look like Denon pads with more plushness................me like.

Any idea when the Z7 will be available commercially in the USA?  Anyone?

As of right now, there is no mention of them on the Sony USA site.  To me that translates to "don't hold your breath"....

Z7 is not listed on the U.S. store.  :frowning2:

It's not listed over here in the Japan store. No mention of it in Sony's headphone park or Hi Res section.

The M-Audio (newer 50mm studio can) was listed in Euro stores a couple months before they got it so it could be a while. I am actually waiting for the guys at e-earphone to even discuss it.

Here some Pics FOR you

I love you Guys

Regards NOMAX

Are the drivers angled forward?

How is the noise isolation? Good enough for an outdoor environment or is this a home only headphone?

How much do they weigh without cable?

What are the dimensions of the space for the ear? Width x Height x Depth in mm

Are the pads removable?

He's referring to a over 2k flagship, but didn't say sony. Rumor for a few years now is that Sennheiser has a estat in the works to replace the he90 and compete against the sr009.

In that case, throw the HE-6 successor and/or Hifiman stat in the loop.
