Help needed on detecting fakes

Thread Starter

I have ordered a pair of JVC HA-FX3X from play.com. They are usually quite a reputable seller, however as they have turned to third party selling, anything could happen. I should get these headphones by Monday. Are there any checks apart from audio checks that I can conduct to make sure these are genuine? I do not have a real version of these to compare audio with.

Thanks, help much appreciated!

I honestly don't think you can. You should be able to tell if the product is defective through simple L/R channel testing, but you probably won't be able to tell if they are fake, unless you compare them to the "real" one.

There are some fakes in the market however, nobody can't tell until you get them.

Check this thread:

In any case, saving some bucks is not worth your time checking and worrying having counterfeits.

If you find more dubious headphones post them in this thread

Just mess around with channel balance to see if the L/R sounds right, and there is no channel imbalance. Honestly though, there is not plausible way to test.

Once you get it, go to the link squallkiercosa gave you. It tells you how to tell apart fake and real.
