Would upgrading from an STX to an STX ii improve this setup?

Currently I listen to music through this setup:

Foobar w/ DirectSound > Xonar STX > SPDIF on Xonar Essence One Muses Edition DAC/Amp > headphone out (Grado PS-500's).

Would upgrading the STX to a Xonar Essence STX ii sound card improve sound quality, given the new model's improvements? I'm not sure what if any effect the Xonar has on the sound when it's transferring the signal via SPDIF to my Essence One for final processing.

Thanks!

No. It won't matter. You could go with a cheaper internal sound card instead, and that wouldn't make a difference either.

If you are looking for a sound upgrade, time to replace the external DAC/amp (Essence One).

to me it's not about upgrading, it's about finding your own flavor, sometimes much cheaper headphones/amps,dacs can bring more musicality, audition more headphones with different sound signatures, experiment with different amp/dacs. this niche can be full of surprises.

Yeah. But he's talking about replacing the internal soundcard (STX) which is passing the audio off to an external DAC (Essence One) via optical. He won't get any sound change out of replacing the STX.

yes. of cause. that would be a big waste of money. there is no point changing the STX,

I already tried Essense One before, I found it little fatiguing with my 612. so I sticked with the E17. that's why I said it's not all about upgrading. its about finding the right synergy with the headphone you are using.

The Essence STX II S/PDIF output will offer zero improvement over the Essence STX's S/PDIF output.

You could replace the Essence STX with a $20 Xonar DG or plug the Essence One straight into the motherboard's digital output (USB, optical, coaxial) and the sound quality would not change.
