Are IEMs for me?

Hey head-fi'ers, would love your suggestions here. I'm not a fan of earplugs -- I feel like the inside of my head is pressurized when I wear them. Are IEMs not for me?

Big Thanks for the recommendations!

an amateur view~ that might be the case, but try different sizes and types of tips before giving becoming too convinced. there ought to be no reason you couldn't use on or over ear instead, though. also, search for tips on how to put them in. it may seem obvious, but there's supposedly a correct method and it might help.

I've actually had a friend who, like you, couldn't handle IEMs, or anything that is inserted into the ear. She said it was extremely uncomfortable even with the smallest tips. I think it's more of a personal issue than anything.

You could try various sizes and types of tips or go for on-ears.

buy a pair of macks ear plugs.  ebay is a good bet.  the feeling you talk about is something you get used to and once you do its not the slightest bother and you actually come to appreciate the deadness that being cut off from the outside world can give and instead produce music.

still, buy the ear plugs, maybe sleep with them see if you start to get used to them.  if for some reason you still just dont like it then your only out a couple of quid and then youll know IEM's arent really for you.  really though, if you just give it a little time you get very used to it.

Thank you all for the words of advice. I'm going to try out those Macks earplugs and see how that works out. IEMs seem pretty cool -- I'm looking for audiophile quality on the go, without the need for an amp. So I'm hoping these earplugs work out!
