yep, unfortunately, it's like an oled calculator screen or something. Mine is super dim and has lots of burn in...

Hey guys, is the E10K supposed to have a bit of resistance on the volume knob as you get to higher volumes? Just trying to find out if I have a defective unit or not, or if this is by design?

I bought this dac/amp at the same time as I bought a pair of he-400's and have enjoyed it so far. I have not been as impressed with the he-400's however. The harsh treble makes my ears ring, even at low volumes and with the highs eq'ed way down. Plus, they are insanely big and heavy and are uncomfortable. So, I am going to sell them and am considering a pair of HD 600's to take their place. I know the e10k is only rated for 150 ohms and that the HD 600's are 300 ohm impedance, but does anyone know if the e10k might still drive them acceptably? At some point I might be able to get a dedicated amp and use the e10k just as a dac, but in the meantime it would be nice if it were up to the task of the HD 600's.

Thanks for any input!

i have heard the HD700 on the e9k. It drives that one perfectly acceptably. it will have no problem with your 600s.

FiiO E9K is a lot more powerful than E10K

Keep in mind, the impedance rating doesn't exactly mean everything. For example, even the 32ohm DT880s are almost as power hungry as the 250 or even the 600ohm models. Personally, I wouldn't go for the HD600s because I would imagine they're more picky about the amp you use. I'm sure you could drive them in the meantime with the e10k though, but I would suggest a different amp in the future. But imo it won't kill you.

Hmmm why would you say so? (I wanna see if the big jump in price from a X1 (portable) and E10K + tube amp (table) setup to a X5 + tube amp (portable and table) only setup is worth it)

The obvious reason is of course that I do find X5 to be better sounding overall.
