thinking about returning iBasso dx90

I bought my first DAP (dx90) recently and I'm not impressed too much by it for its price tag of ~$400.

I'm thinking about downgrading to dx50 or is dx90 noticeably sonically superior to dx50?

The only reason I went for dx90 instead of dx50 in the first place is b/c from experience, buying the best in my budget saved me money in the long run

I'm new to audiophile world so I'm pretty much noob at this so any help appreciated!

Well it's all based on our opinion and income. I personally think the dx90 is worth the extra $200 more. Some are happy with their sansa clip and think anything more isn't worth it. Others are happy playing from their phones. Then there are those crazy/rich people who think $2100 more for the ak240 is worth it, and adding a few hundreds more for mods.

Since you are thinking about returning the product anyway, why don't you just buy the DX50 and then compare it to the dx90 and see if it's worth it? Return whichever you don't want.

^^

What he said smily_headphones1.gif

Also, what headphones are you using with your DAP? A headphone upgrade could give you the bigger increase in SQ over an expensive DAP, depending on what model you have.

I'm using FA-003Ti. And I'm already near my budget with dx90, so I would need to return it if I want to try dx50.

I just think the sound improvement over my phone, s3, is minimal. Well I like its better separation and less warm sound. Maybe I need to burn it in (idk if burn in is real or not never tried it)?

I'm confused. The DX50 is less than the DX90, so if you kept it you would be under budget.

Anyway, burn in for electronics? I wouldn't count on it improving anything.

I think what he means is that if he spends $200 more he will go over his budget. (ex. He has $500, spent $400, and has $100 left.)

Since you don't have any high end headphones I don't recommend the dx90 especially since you said you weren't impressed with it. The people who say it makes a huge difference are usually the ones with $1,000+ C/IEMs/headphones

^ That's what I meant.

Then for my headphones, would going for expensive dap not worth it?
