TEAC UD-301

I use mine with Windows 10 and for awhile I had major issues, but it was traced back to the driver installation, namely some features were checked that shouldn't have been. Anyway I'm using it only with Wasapi via Music Bee but once in a while have stutters and drop outs but nothing to a level I would be too worried. Having said that it was more stable with my old Win7 laptop unfortunately it had suffered a hard disc failure and hence why it is out of my system and why I use the new Win 10 computer. YMMV.

appreciated. I did try to close the image by clicking the Cancel button in it...

I quite like the idea of having optical out for all my system sounds etc, then specifying the usb connection as the output device in foobar/vlc/whatever, and switching inputs on the DAC when i want to listen to uninterrupted music, so that'll be how i'll try setting it up initially.

Thanks again for your help you lovely people!

well after a bit of fuss and hassle it's here, it's setup and so far it's working exactly as i'd hoped with no issues alongside the 6i6 as an input device.

Thanks again for your help and advice; I'm off to find better copies of my favourite albums again!

Hi, I'm having the same sorts of issues with my UD-301.  It plays for awhile, then the frequency lights start flashing and it starts to stutter and get garbled.  Did you get yours stabilized?  Do you recall what settings you used?

Thanks

I had that several times when I had the 301 and had to restart the computer even under Win 7. I believe it is a software issue and I believe my culprit was Tidal. It even effected my Mac Book Pro with my Yggy with the Tidal app. Running Tidal from Chrome and no problems but the app kills all audio.

Look at my posts a couple pages back, post number 187 in particular. It was a driver setting issue in my case.
Having said that in my case the playback would just stop within the first 2 minutes of any track without any issues. No flashing or garbles sound, just stops. Yes the the "fix" in my case stopped the problem for about 99.% of the time, if I experience issues I just power cycle the UD 301 wait a few minutes and presto.

Well, I switched it from a USB 2.0 to a USB 3.0 connection on the PC side and the problem has gone away.  I don't understand it - the 301 is clearly a USB 2.0 device, so I don't know why it wasn't working.  At any rate, I am very happy to get this straightened out because seeing a $350 DAC sit there choking away was really ticking me off.  Now I can finally relax and enjoy this equipment.:)

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but how did the UD-301 compare to the Yggdrasil?

If you can hear the difference then the Yggy might be worth the price but there are other DACs that I feel are better than the Yggy for less like Metrum Musette, UD-501/503, and MHDT Pagoda that I've heard. Between my Bimby and UD-301 its a matter of preference, the UD-301 is slightly more extended in the highs while the BImby has a slightly smoother over all sound.

What hi-fi have a review online, looks a very nice dac,its nearly £200 more than the 301,no DSD and usb only does 24/96,the new m-dac+ does dsd through usb but is twice the price of the 301.
Looks like an interesting DAC, the only issue I've read is that although it's very resolving and dynamic, it (allegedly) can sound clinical and bright. The M-DAC also has an ESS9018 chip.
