As in faster navigation through file system and/or library OR faster library build OR both?

Wonder that myself. If file transfers are faster than it might be worth using exFAT otherwise I'm not sure what the benefit is. FAT32 seems to work pretty quick on the x3 to me - can update my 64gb  library in bout a minute. No complaints about navigation either.

Also can I assume the X3 still formats as fat32? (honestly not planning to try this beta, I'll wait for something more useful (to me) to come along.

Hi.  I just downloaded the beta firmware, hoping I could update with this instead of the regular 3.0 and I keep getting the same "could not find file" error that 3.0 was giving me.  Will this still work on an exFAT setup?  And does it matter that my card is 64 GB or does it need to be smaller than that?

Its faster load load audio Files onto the exfat formatted card than the fat32 formatted card.  As far as playing the files on the X3, no changes noticed.

Works great.

Tested with a Sandisk 128gb microSD

I tried playing a song right off the player on the SD card and it tells me "playback failed, file not found".  When I hook it up to the PC, I can listen to files on the SD card without a problem.  My player is using FW2.1.  Does anyone know what is going on?

Post more information, what is the size of the card? is it formatted on FAT32? exFAT?

What type of file are you trying to play?

Any reason why you haven't updated to firmware 3.0?

You need to be using FW3.00EX to read a card formatted as exfat - or have you posted in the wrong thread?

No, I am using the fw3.00ex.  I've tried downloading it a couple of times in case the download was corrupted, but every time, it gives me the same errors.  I even tried placing the zip on the card alongside the unzipped file, but nothing I have tried is working.

You say you are using 2.1

Now you say you are using 3.00EX?

Is the problem updating the firmware?

Hang on, I think I see - you cannot read the SD card in the player - this means the card is incorrectly formatted. You will need a properly formatted  FAT32 card in order for FW2.1 to read it in order to update the firmware!

Format the card first using the utility provided on the X3 - then it will be able to read the file in order to perform the update.

If you have already transferred a lot of files to an exfat formatted card, then hopefully you have another card you can use.

Hello,

The X3 will be able to read music files off an ExFAT formatted card once upgraded to 3.00EX. Before that though, you need an FAT32 formatted card with which to do firmware upgrades. In fact, you always need an FAT32 formatted card to do firmware upgrades regardless of what other formats the X3 can normally read for music playing (many versions of firmware have been able to support NTFS formatted cards, for example, but still require a FAT32 card for firmware upgrades.)

You say you're running FW2.1 right now. You can easily obtain a FAT32 formatted card by formatting the card with the X3 itself via System Settings->Storage formatting. Then you can put any firmware of your choice on the card and run the upgrade smily_headphones1.gif

Joe Bloggs,

Is the album art size issue something that FiiO plans to address in the future?

Thanks

I tried doing the format option on the player before and must have selected no before (explains why it didn't take any time to go back to the menus again).  Once I moved it to yes and formatted, everything works perfectly and I am now enjoying the new firmware. :)  The player says that it is now on exFAT.  Even though the formatting changed it to FAT32, is this accurate?  And thanks for your help!

The build in formatting option in X3 (FW 3.0EX) will format my card to exFAT?

No, ExFAT support has been added but FAT32 is still the default format. And as mentioned, the X3 is only ever capable of flashing new firmware from a FAT32-formatted card, so having the capability to format to FAT32 right from the player is always important.
