I have been researching here and on the net for a nice set of portable headphones for work. Not looking for total isolation, so on ears are fine. I'm looking for something similar in sound to Beyer DT-990's, but in a portable package. A carrying case for protection when thrown into my backpack would be a plus. Some of the prospects are (but not limited to):
Vmoda XS; Beyer DTX 501p, Senn PX 100ii; Audio Technica ATH-es700; AKG K-452. Unfortunately, there aren't any retail stores that sell these options, so I have to buy based on what I read.
In researching it appears that most of the portable's are lacking in the area of Treble, which I love. Not to say I don't like a nice bottom end, also. I had demo'ed a pair of DT-990's before and was blown away, but they are way too big for portable use.
I currently have Grado Sr-60's, Amperior's & KSC 75's. My KSC 75's usually last about 6 months to a year before they become intermittent due to cable failure, which is one benefit of the VMODA's, you can just replace the cable.
I'm currently using an ipod classic into a JDS labs c5 via a lod.
Anyway, I'm sure I missed some better options, and would sure appreciate some advice.
