Are the ones in this thread ok without an amp or do I need to mark off any from the list?

Bottom line is that my son likes how Beats sound overall.  He wants loudness with bass, without becoming distorted.  He will not be listening to Jazz or anything.  I want to get him something that will do that for him and that as a teenager he will want to wear.  The M100's kinda scared me with the style, but I need to pick the best option and roll.

You can stay in the under $200 bracket and get headphones that sound better than the Beats overall with plenty of bass. Then get him the FiiO E11. Good sound with a bass boost so if he wants more bass, he can use the amp to provide it.

Ok, so I think the main options now are the V-Moda's, Munitio's, and ATH-M50x's.

The V-Moda's are definitely more $$.  I think I need to order within the next couple hours to get them here by Thursday.

Looks like the v-moda m100's would be a good choice.

For sure his friends are gonna compare them to beats and the m100's will outperform them.

This equates to a happy son. biggrin.gif

Never heard of Munitio's, but the other two are pretty good cans. Either of them would be a great choice for your son.
