Need some help with headphone choice!

Thread Starter

Hey everyone! This is my first post on these forums and I was looking for some recommendations as to which headphones I could get for gaming (over the ear) at about or under $120.

I've done tons of research on some perspective products but I wanted your guys' opinion before I buy any of the ones I consider.

Here are some of the ones that I am currently looking at (Also, feel free to post ANY suggestions you have that fit the price range, thanks!):

http://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Stereo-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNBAM/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1403953082&sr=1-1&keywords=akg+k+240+mk+ii

http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Premium-Hi-Fi-Style-Headphone/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=pd_sim_e_2/186-3412846-7929929

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826262102

Keep in mind, I mainly play first person shooters so I'm looking for headphones that will provide a good soundscape for being to hear footsteps among other things. Also, i'm just looking for headphones not a headset, i've already got a desktop microphone (Blue Snowball.)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. :)

Avid PC gamer here. I don't have any experience with anything that you linked or much of anything in that price range. If I can make one suggestion though, you'll want a can in your price range with the largest sound stage. From my experience, headphones with big sound stages tend to work really well for gaming.

Also thinking about adding the Creative Aurvana Live! headphones to my list of considerations as well. Any opinions?

You haven't said whether or not you would consider open headphones? Open headphones are going to be better for gaming because of the increased soundstage as long as you don't need the isolation of closed headphones.

I don't have a specific criteria for open closed. If open headphones are better for gaming then recommend some. :)

If you could find a nice used pair the q701 is wonderful....huge sound stage...which equals great for gaming
