AKG K550s, Corsair SP2500 AMP and ASUS Xonar DGX. Headphones to AMP or DGX?

Heya guys, so i've recently been building up my first PC Audio setup and the kit you see in the title is what i've ultimately gone for. I alternate between the headphones and speakers based on just how I feel at the time and was wondering what you think would produce better sound plugging the headphones into the AMP I got with SP2500s or direct into my DGX soundcard or if there would be no real difference in sound quality between the two... When I tried both, I found they sounded quite similar but i'm a mere novice and there's likely things I failed to notice due to the break in listening between swapping over the plugin etc. so I was hoping to get the opinions of those more experienced than I :).

Thanks for any help you can give.

Only you can be the judge of what sounds better. Play around a bit and stick with what you like.

As for my experience with the K550, I don't think they really change much depending on the amp you're using. I've tried my K550 with multiple amps (magni/lyr), a phone, straight out of a pc, and directly into my sound card (xfi titanium hd). Sure there are some slight nuances that change when plugging into different sources/amps, but overall the K550 sound doesn't drastically change. They're easy to drive and sound great out of everything. Sit back and enjoy.

Assuming you disabled the motherboard's on-board audio? in the BIOS.

If your ears can't tell a difference, then then for audio quality it does not matter which one you plug the headphones into.

If you got something like a FiiO E17 external DAC/Amp and connected it to the optical port on the DGX and plugged the K550s into the E17

It should (might) improve the audio quality of the K550s, just not sure by how much.

Maybe in the future you could replace the DGX with an Xonar DX sound card (used $60) or Hifimediy Sabre 2 USB DAC ($65) or Schiit Modi DAC ($110).

(You would be plugging the K550s into the SP2500)
