reccomendation for old sony iem upgrade

I am looking to upgrade some old Sony MDR ex 71 IEMs I have had for ages. Considering the hifiman re 400 or shure se 215. Considering that that stores won't let me demo IEMs due to hygenie issues, taking a blind shot here.

would appreciate views if going to such models from my current set would get me a significant jump in in sound quality

I'm not sure about the MDR EX71, but the RE-400 has a more neutral sound than the SE215 I'd say. Bass is good and tight.

I like both - the SE215 is slightly looser in terms of bass I'd say, but still good.

the RE-400 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the SE215 but.................. im betting the SE215 is going to be much more to your tastes, certianly much more what your used to bass wise.  it also offers good build quality and good warranty from a big name brand.

Most people prefer the rha ma750 and yamaha eph100 over the shure se215 soundwise. They all have a similar sound signature.

Thanks for advice. My original Sony's are quite bass heavy, so the shures might be my thing. Unfortunately where I live the RHA are twice the price of the others.
