Need advice- earbud soldering

Thread Starter

Hey all.

so im planning to get this cable http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Top-Quality-silver-Audio-Cable-Wire-For-IE80-IE8I-earphones-headset-Upgrading-Repair-DIY-wire-cable/1574918853.html

I will have to remove the ie80 plugs and then solder it to the driver. The question which I cannot find an answer to is  what  holds the cable in the housing so that

It won't be torn from the soldering when there are strong "down stress" or bend in during  "up tension " of the cable. Basically, how this strain relief part is made.

Thanks in advance,

Y.B

Depends on the earbud. Some have a simple knot in the cable that is larger than the cable exit. Others pinch the cable, some have mold on relief. Lots of styles.

Hi jenia1, its right you can use simple knot, small steel wire, small tape, or hot glue.

oh, interesting, i guess a knot will work for the tension and glueing for the compression, thanks.

on the same occasion i would like to ask another small question,

Does anybody have experience with gluing drivers? and why cannot a smaller driver be fit in a bigger housing?(earbuds)

there are just no guides online, and i didnt find an answer using the search here.

Thanks.

Gluing driver, maybe you can use epoxy to make the mounting for the smaller driver or using hot glue around the driver side (you must be very handy to do this biggrin.gif) or you can just try it with blue tack / tack it, etc.
