Powering Beyerdynamic 880s

Thread Starter

I recently decided to purchase a pair of Beyerdynamic 880s, but I haven't the slightest clue about how I should power them.  Can anyone give me an overview of what I need in the amp/DAC categories, and maybe suggest some affordable equipment for me?  I see a lot of posts about how good the phones sound with an amp, but people rarely go into detail about which amps pair best.

Thanks in advance,

What sources are the DT880s being used with?

Are they the DT880 250-Ohm or 600-Ohm?

Budget?

Can I make a very simple suggestion? Get a good integrated amp with tone controls (Marantz, Nad, Rotel, Denon) . You'd be surprised at the improvement -2db on the treble and +2db on the bass can make. People talk about tube amps to tame the treble and warm up the bass, but frankly nothing tames and warms like simple tone controls. I often wonder what people have against them--or against integrated amps for that matter. I've never heard the slightest difference between a good integrated and an equivalent dedicated HP amp, and unless you're stuck for space an integrated is so much better value.
