Also I heard that the PCI-E x16 slot is compatible backwards. That means You can plug in an STX (x1 PCI-E) into it, right?

Yes, it shouldn't be a problem other than in rare cases where it could cause some issues with certain device/MB combos.

How could I check then whether my mobo (Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3) will certainly not cause any issues? I have no clue where to find it in the manual or the internet. Most supposedly I will have to improvise when the card is delivered and something goes wrong :)

You could google it to death but in the world of computing there are still no guarantees about anything. You probably have a 99% chance of there being no IRQ conflicts or bandwidth issues for your combo and thats very high, I'd just go for it.

Edit-  See this thread, particularly posts 19-21.

Does your board have a free PCI slot that would allow the Xonar ST (PCI version of the STX) to be an option instead?

Oh thanks for googling to death for me :) Does it mean that with plugging an extension card to PCIE4 on my mobo I will lose some lanes (and therefore performance) that are used for the PCIE2 (where my GPU is)? Probably I will plug it into PCIE5 anyway, but I am just curious.

It does and I was considering this option, however, PCI non express standard is said to be slowly becoming obsolete. In a few years it will most possibly disappear from new mobos, so if I come to buy a new one (I do some pc upraged from time to time) a Xonar ST could become useless.
