Where to go from HE-500

Could use some help/opinions!

I'm ready to upgrade.. My main rig is CD -> Bifrost -> Lyr -> HE-500

I really love the HE-500 sound, but I want..more. I definitely want a bigger soundstage, a bit more separation/airiness, and just a little more oomph in the bass.

I've been looking most closely at Audeeze, HD800, T1.. etc. I have a feeling that Audeeze is probably where I will end up.

Most importantly, I don't want to sacrifice too much of those sweet hifiman mids.

Recommendations for an upgrade or stuff to stay away from?

Cheers

Wanted to mention music.

Rock: Beatles, Stones, Bob Mould, Built to Spill, Radiohead, Cure, Neil Young...
Folkish: Bonnie Prince Billy, Sun Kil Moon, Juana Molina, Dylan...
Etc: XTC, Fiona Apple, Modeselektor, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement, Cat Power

Not so much Pop, hip hop, classical.

If you are looking for more air I don't think Audeze will suit you.
I personally suggest HE6
YMMV

Just get an HE560 for the most straight-forward upgrade from HE500, if you seek what you seek (soundstage/airiness/bass solidity, but still Hifiman house sound) without having to change up your upstream at all.

I went HE-500 -> LCD-2 -> LCD-3 -> HD800

From the first three, LCD-2 was my favourite. HD800 trumped them all, including and specifically in bass. I felt the HE-500 could do all genres. The LCD-2 could also do all genres nicely. The LCD-3's bass was more suited more slower to medium paced genres. HD800 simply excels with all genres, regardless of BPM.

HD800 also has the best mids from the above.

I don't consider the audeze line vs sennheiser hd-800 to be upgrades or downgrades or even side grades. They seem totally different to me. Don't know the the hifiman line that well. What are you looking to improve? Btw, consider the thd900 given the genres that interest you.

You're right and I should have worded it better. Hifiman has a great house sound and is in its own class.

My impression was that Audeze (LCD-2, X) brings a bit of that comfy, warm sound (mostly LCD-2) but their house is on a larger scale. Is that a poor assumption?

I'll admit I have a certain fascination with Audeze.. Unfortunately I have to purchase blind (deaf?) as I'm not able to get a pair on my head locally.
