UE 900 vs Shure SE425

I've used the UE700 for the last three years and have been very happy with them for the price point. The cable broke down recently and I decided to upgrade to the UE900. The right EarPod turned out to be defective and I'm returning them. The shop is giving me a choice between a replacement and a refund and I'm not sure what to do. Should I take a chance with the UE900 or is there something better at the same price point?
How do the Shure se425 fare compared to the UE900? I mostly listen to pop/rock and acoustic.

I was happy with the bass response of the ue700 but loved the timber quality of the UE900. But I find the bass in the UE900 to be lacking? How does the Shure se425 compare to the ue700 and ue900? (Mainly in terms of bass and timber.)

I'd love to own a pair of IEMs with the bass of the ue700 and the timber of the ue900.

IMO, if you're able demo them it would be great. From my point of view, I would prefer the UE900. The bass probably could be affected by the defective component? The bass of UE900 is comparable to W4R which is pretty good in both quality and quantity. The UE900 is definitely more technically efficient as I find them even more superior than the SE535Ltd on a technical level. Sound signature wise it'll be down to own preferences but my choice will be the UE900 opposed to SE425.

eh?

you liked the bass on the 700 but found the 900 lacking?  personally i can pretty much say the 700 is the worst sounding dual BA ive come across. their only redeeming feature was the appearance and tiny dimensions.  still if you liked the 700 the 425 would be very different.  the 700 is a vigorously aggressive and brittle IEM, the 425 is going to be an extremely staid monitor.

If i'm not wrong 700 and 425 are made on the same drivers, but tuned differently.
425 (and all BA Shures) sounds better on powerful sources, while UE can give a good sound even on iPods.

Thanks for the prompt replies smily_headphones1.gif .

I can't demo them here. In fact, most brick and mortar stores don't even sell earphones above the 30$ range. The only way I can buy them is online. I'll be using them with my ipad and iPhone mostly (without an amp). How does the bass of the UE900 compare to the SE425? Any other models to consider like the Sennheiser IE80 or even a Sony model?
