Commuter IEM: Best Options? (Shure 215 vs. AKG K391 vs. Sennheisser IE 60)

Thread Starter

Hello all, this is my first post, so please excuse me for any newbie mistakes.  I am not an audiophile at all, so any tips or comments are welcomed.

I am a student that commutes about 2 hrs each day by bus, and I prefer to listen to music if I can.  Now I did some research on Head fi and have found the general consensus to be IEMs for commuting.  My question is which one offers the best isolation?  I am a med student so need to be able to hear faint heart sounds.  I think I already may have some hearing loss from my Apple earbuds that I used in high school.  I have looked at a few options.

Shure 215 - Had these for 2 years before they were recently stolen, hence why this new thread. I liked the sound but isolation was okay with silicon tips.  I did not like the foam buds that came with it.

AKG K391 NC - These apparently have active noise cancelling, but reviews are mixed from Amazon as to how much noise it cuts out.

Sennheisser E60 - No idea how it compares to Shure 215 in terms of sound, but it does have bass boost.  I listen to a lot of RnB, pop, and rock music, so bass could be the tipping point.

I am also open to other options as well (over the head, other IEMs).  Price range is about 100-200.  Cheaper is of course better for a student :)

Thank you for your help!

Check theheadphonelist.com and see what they recommend.

You may want to check out etymotic iem's. Their exceptionally good isolation allows for listening at very low volume. I have the hf5, love them and would definitely use them for the purpose you described. They are also quite affordable.

Theres the etymotic hf5 if you want something bass neutral.
If you want some fun sounding iems, take out the shure se 215 and put in the yamaha eph100 and rha ma750
