Man, you think you blow a lot of money on headphones... Run away screaming, Jay. Turntables are awesome, but they are possibly the single biggest moneypit in all of enthusiast audio. I now have something on the order of $2.5k in modifications and upgrades to my $1k TT, and there's still a ton of stuff I haven't done to it. Truth be told, that's one of the reasons I haven't set my TT back up yet-- I don't need any more temptations to spend money on %^& audio gear, and a turntable is the easiest way to sink horrific quantities of money before you know what happened.

Save yourself. Run awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!

yup!

I picked up a Technics SL-3200 at a local church garage sale for $30.  It was in excellent condition all around.  All it needed was a cartridge change.  I haven't been into vinyl since about 2005.  But, in my 'junk' storage, I found a barely used Shure M97xE cartridge of excellent reputation.  And....

WOW!...  This cheap table doesn't sound so cheap!!!  Pretty darn amazing, actually.  If you can get past the inevitable surface noise, the music just sounds oh so good!!  Not that I have a lot of money invested in my digital setup, like, maybe $1000 for my DAC/headphone amp setup, but still, that less that $30 'table with a cartridge that can be had new for under $100 gives it a good run for the money!!!

if i were to get a TT, i'd start very cheap, at least until i accumulated a bit of vinyl

Sorry it took so long to get to this thread:) Looking forward to the meet. Along with the PS1000's, I will bring the GS1000's to compare to the e's that Jay is bringing. I will also bring the Denon D7000's as well. Theogenes, you have way outdone yourself!!  This meet seems like it is really shaping up to be way bigger than last time. Getting very excited to hear great gear!!

Don't forget the Sennenheisers!!!

On another, deeply meaningful subject, football, LSU just beat Wisconsin!!! Yes, the Big-10 is now screwed for the first year of playoffs. With Ohio Stare struggling, Wisconsin is set to run the table in the Big-10. which would/will keep the Big-10 out of the Playoff picture. Having played for the PAC-12,and grew up in Gainesville, I hate the Big-10, nothing personal, just don't like them, or Notre Dame very much.

SEC rules, Go Vols :beerchug: just watched a beat down on Utah State.  Only a 6 point favorite and ESPN calling for an upset, too bad if you took the points.  I guess those freshmen are pretty good after all.

The Sennheiser HD800 and T1 are mine so you bet they will be there :D

Just got back from watching my Vols in Neyland Stadium take care of business... and just barely beat that 3.5 point line at kickoff ;).

Dog tired, and have to be up at 5:30am tomorrow for work (ugh), so off to bed... Nice to see Oteil back around, and yeah-- this meet is shaping up pretty nicely!! :)

Hahaha I'm looking forward to getting to know this little guy. It's remarkably small.

And you're right. I'd say that I plan on keeping this one for a while but I say that about everything...
