Higher res music sounds worse than lower???

I have a Denon 1912 reciever with a pair of Martin Logan motionflow 12's and when I'm playing anything higher than 16/44.1 it starts to sound really bad. Ear piercing highs, mids are all over the place.

Is the built-in DAC the problem? Speakers are 4ohms, reciever is only rated up to 6ohms. Using 16 gauge wire atm, going to switch to 10 gauge soon.

Have had them for 3yrs now, started getting into high-res music awhile back. Sounds fine when watching movies in DTS-HD though.

How do you have your sources connected to the Denon 1912?

I'm using a Asus mini oplay with hdmi to the reciever. I'm using raw output on the player.

Hmm, that got me thinking, I might try using the front usb port for my hdd to have a direct connection to the receiver.

You might try doing a "reset" on the Denon and then go thru the Denon's settings.

Maybe do the same with the Asus

A long shot

Might also try running optical from the Asus to the Denon, for playing music.

As optical, for music, is a very simple PCM 2-channel signal.

Just in case the Asus/Denon are having some weird HDMI issues.
