spdif output question

I have the Asus P4T533-C Motherboard with spdif output. I'm not sure if its straight 44.1 or upsampling. How would I find this out?

Also if i hooked this up to a DAC would this sound as good as purchasing an expensive seperate soundcard?

either using another soundcard with S/PDIF in or playing DTS encoded CD through it to some home theater receiver..

no way.. and I know what I'm speaking about..

Just drop the $165-200 for a E-MU 1212m and be happy you won't need another source upgrade for a long time.
