Looking for my first headphones to listen FLACs, HD-598 or HD-558?

Hi! I'm new on this blog and i wanted help.

This are my first headphones, so i would like recommendatios of buying them, with a cost of 200 dollars, and well, i don't have a big studio of music, just my laptop and ipod, some flacs and mp3 at 320. I want to get all my library on flac, but well, i have only some sony plug in earphones of 5 dollars, so i can't use them well.

I normally listen a little of everything, but most importantly progressive music, rock, metal, IDM, some dubstep and some classical music. I have read about low bass and all technical specifications, but i really want them just for listening music in my room at good quality. I was searching for headphones and i found the Sennheiser HD 598, but a friend of mine told me that they are more for monitoring (i don't know if it's the same word in english, in spanish is "Monitoreo") and she recommended me some Shure Headphones.

I would like you to give me recomendations, or if the HD 598 are good, or something that it would be good for me

I don't play music, i sing, but i don't record myself, so i dont think i will use it for music programs. I just want them to listen the music in flac, but as i read, the problem with the sennheiser brand is low bass, but i don't understand why it would be an inconvenient.

Thanks!

The Shures are closed headphones and the Sennheiser HD598 is open, does it matter to you?

I'm guessing by your friend's term of referring to the HD598s at "monitor" headphones, he is saying the HD598 do not have a "Fiesta" like sound, like if your sitting in the front row at a music festival,

more like your sitting more towards the back seats, your getting all the details in the sound, but the sound is a little subdued.

If you did decide the HD598 are the type of sound you want, better to by used HD558s and remove the black rubber tape from inside the cups, makes the HD558s almost as good as the HD598, but for a lot less Euros.

The HD558 and HD598 use the same drivers.

The HD558s do have a big bass, but I do not find the bass lacking.

This $20 cable makes it a little easier to use the HD558/HD598 with 3.5mm jacks.
