How would you think it would be worth it when you don't know if you would benefit significantly from a headphone amp to start with?
I got to try the W4 with my SGS and also diyMod 5g+Ibasso PB-1 before (just the SE output) - the latter was a little bit better but not by much. Switching from the plastic ear tips to the grey foam tips did a lot more to improve the sound than the iPod and amp, although I did a +2db EQ boost at 125hz (only to hear more of a "thump" out of the drums). These IEMs are very easy to drive, and I suppose the crossovers don't present that much more complex a load that would necessitate an amp as much as a huge tower speaker with five drivers needing an amp that makes at least 35watts RMS at 8ohms and high current that doubles that power at half the impedance (like how I like Dynaudios driven by NAD or Rotel amps vs most other amps in the price range, barring powerful T-amps).
Assuming you've already tried all the tips that came with it, I suggest you try Neutron Media Player first. Sucks a lot of battery power but I assume you have a powerbank or spare batteries (with their own charger) anyway with an Android like that. If tweaking the sound doesn't really work (EQ and Crossfeed settings) then that's when you try the E18, anyways at least then it also works as a powerbank for the phone.
Or let's say you don't have a powerbank at all right now, then at least that's a great reason to get the E18 - at the very least half its price will go into it serving as a powerbank.
