That is what the guys in the retail store told me initially when I asked for the 325e. I can pre-order now but will only ship in July. But I told them I was talking with the distributor and I can place the order now and it will be shipped the next day. They called the distributor for confirmation, they talked to the same guy and was told my order will be shipped to them after 24 hours of placing the order.

We'll see if they call me today or tomorrow.

The list of upgrades/changes sound extensive: it seems like a complete overhaul of internals:

At the very least, there should be an increase in durability (coated connectors, stronger glue). At best, there will be minor but discernible differences in dynamic range, reduced coloration, and lower distortion.

All right, I'm not their PR guy, but they are not claiming minor revisions: they are claiming comprehensive revisions of internals.

My SR80e's are arriving tomorrow! The fine people at 4ourears shipped them with 2 day shipping. I'm looking forward to lots of listening.

Congratulations!

Are you going to be comparing them too an existing pair of 80i's?

No. Technically, I own the SR60i. A couple weeks after receiving them, my girlfriend fell in love with them and stole them, haha.

lower distortion isn't guaranteed. a bigger driver can lead to an increase in distortion if it's not well controlled. thd measurements should show how the new bigger drivers behave compared to earlier Grados.

Do they all use larger drivers or only the more expensive series?

Nowhere did I state or even imply it was a guarantee. I stated lower distortion is a PR claim which may or may not be evident in a best case scenario.

Mod Edit: followup paragraph deleted to avoid conflict
post #159 of 1734
you stated there will be lower distortion and i replied there's no guarantee of that. i wasn't suggesting that you personally guaranteed it.

From what I see on Grado and Alessandro website

PS1000e, GS1000e - 50mm, 12 conductor cable

PS500e, RS2e - 44mm, 8 conductor cable

RS1e - 50mm, 8 conductor cable

SR325e, SR125e - 8 conductor cable, no mention of driver size

SR80e - 4 conductor cable, no mention of driver size

SR225e, SR60e - no mention of cable and driver size

Alessandro range - no mention of e changes

Thanks much.

I guess the difference in driver sizes should at least put to rest the rumor that Grado uses the same driver in all their headphones.

Though it might just evolve to "ps1ke, gs1ke, rs1e all use the same driver *yada* *yada* *yada*"...

I'll be getting a pair of 80e's tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hearing if they sound different from the 80i.

Just got in touch with the local (singapore) distro, and according to them, their current stock are already "e" except for the physical marking on the cans. Those with "e" marking are arriving in mid Jul.

I just bought the SR80 last week. I doubt it's an e series as it does not have the red driver. The distributor said they already started shpping to retail stores but won't put them on the shelf until July. I called 2 retail stores and asked about the e series. One said they don't offer the e series yet and ask me to call again after 2 weeks. The other didn't give a tentative date and didn't confirm nor deny it will be available come July.
