using win 8 tablet in car connected to a sound processor alpine pxa 800

Thread Starter

hello guys

I don't know where to post this so I put it here

I have decided to use my Lenovo window 8.1 tablet in my car instead of using my HU as a player

now windows 8.1 does not have an optical output so I used with it edirol ua 4fx which is connected optically to my alpine pxa 800 car processor.

I like the edirol ua 4fx but its kinda big, the reason why I like it is that I can manipulate the sound by increasing the treble and bass and other things using knobs.

Is there another sound card maybe smaller in size that I can use instead of edirol that allows manipulating sound and has optical line.

thanks

I have a similar setup in my ute. I would suggest getting a cheap proper DAC like a hifimediy mini from eBay. It will sound better than any head unit and cost all of 20 or 30 dollars.

The next part is the hard part, if you are using the amp in your head unit then you need to use Aux or line in to play the music through your speakers. If you however do have a separate amp running your speakers simply use a 3.5mm to rca cable plugged into the input side of your amp.

You can get more complicated with pre-amps etc but most of the time auto amps are happy to take 2v from a DAC without any issues.
