Schiit Modi Optical

Thread Starter

Do all optical outputs output up to 24/192? Do all optical/toslink/spdif (WTF is the difference) carry up to 24/192 as well?

Just trying to decide if I should get a external DAC or continue using my sound card DAC.

I really doubt you will play anything audio that will make a noticeable improvement with a S/PDIF (optical or coaxial) 24-bit/192k DAC, over a S/PDIF 24-bit/96K.DAC.

Are you thinking of getting a Modi optical DAC, replacing whatever is your current DAC?

Or thinking of replacing your current Modi optical DAC?

S/PDIF optical really struggles above 24/96. At any rate your DAC settings should be set to your source settings. I'll bet that means 16/44.1 for you. In which case the Modi would be good for you if you're experiencing noise from your current setup.
