Anyone been to a Russian deli?

There is a market near me that has a Russian deli and it looks interesting. Any suggestions? I sampled some of the free samples of cold meats and it was good. I might buy some of the cold meats and Russian butter and some bread.

If you like fish and beef jerky, or would like to try something different I'd suggest you try some "Taranka", it fish that is slow cooked using salt and dried. Its a bit messing by it goes very good with beer.
There are lots of other foods that are sorta stolen from other countries like "Pelmeni" and "Vareniki" which are like Ravioli and Tortellini.
Also you absolutely HAVE to try the pickled tomatoes, they are to die for.
I'd suggest you go and eat at a Russian restaurant if you're interested in real Russian cuisine.

Sounds great. Thanks for the taranka suggestion. I love fish and noticed they have pickled fish like the salmon. Do I eat the cold pickled fish with Russian bread and butter?

By the way, the place also sells Russian bottled beer :-)

Pickled Herring was like made to eat with butter on bread. You've hit it straight on the nose.
