Good combo?: Beyerdynamic dt880 premium 600 ohm with a Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 Plus DAC

Hi all,

I am getting ready to invest in a high end audio setup, including a nice pair of headphones as well as an amp/dac. I have pretty much decided on the dt880 600 ohms. I listen to mainly jazz music and I have hear that for instrument separation and soundstage, the 600 ohm version is the best. Will that amp/dac be able to drive those headphones well? If not, do you have any other suggestions. I don't want to spend more than 350 on the headphones and 200 total for an amp/dac.

Thanks

In my honest opion, get your self the Beyer DYanmic DT 880 Pro 250 Ohm, it's a little cheaper than the 600 ohm, and take your savings to buy a Schiit Audio Modi and Schiit Vali, it's about $250 for the Modi and Vali new, and $225 ish for the DT 880 Pro 250 ohm from Amazon. I think the Schiit stack will sound a touch better than the D1

I own and like my DT880 Premium 600-Ohm headphones, but the most I would pay for them is just over $200.

Otherwise get the DT880 Pro 250-Ohm.

There is also the Schiit Modi/Magni DAC/Amp combo.

I recommend the Vali over the Magni, I enjoyed the Vali with my DT 880 and I found it to be greatly enjoyable! The DT 880 sounds great with tubes, and the Vali is an excellent Tube very clean and I think you'll enjoy it a touch over the Magni

Thanks for the opinion. Assuming money isn't an issue, will the 600 ohm ones get driven well by the midi and vali? I am pretty much set on the 600 ohm ones, so does the vali have the power? Thanks.

It does I used my 600 ohm with the Vali, and I would again recommend getting the 250 Ohm Pro. As it's much more versitile [can be drivein portably and at home]  and I found the Pro to be more comfortable as well
