PX-200 durable?

Been a long time visiter, finally decided to register

I've decided to purchase the PX-200. I know Sen provides a case but was curious how well the joint between the ear cups and head band really hold up. To all you owners of the PX-200, can you quickly comment on their durability. Has anyone broken a pair?

If I remember correctly, the parts that comprise the earpiece/headband juncture are metal.

At airports and on airplanes, with little time to properly stow things, I've carried my PX100 and PX200 in my back pants pockets (I know, sacrilege), frequently sitting on them, and they've held up very well (though I wouldn't recommend anyone abuses their headphones this way).

Can anyone confirm the earcup to head band joints being metal? I remotely recall somone saying they look like metal but are just painted plastic. I don't think i'll have a chance to check these out in person before i order (online).

thanks

I was at one of the product launch events for these headphones (and the PX100 and PX250), but I can't remember what they said word-for-word about this. I do remember they placed particular emphasis on the durability of this part of the headphones, and mentioned metal. Anyway, all I can find specifically is what's on Sennheiser's web site on this page:

The joint isn't that durable. One time I was sitting on the cord and jerked the headphones up (PX200.) The right side headband detached from the driver, and when I put it back in the headband wouldn't stay in place (it would slide smoothly in and out.) Durable = no.

I've had my cord on both my PX100 and PX200 caught on chair arms, backpack buckles, etc., on many occasions (more often on my PX100 because I use it more), but haven't had either break.

Right now, I'm tugging pretty hard on one side of my PX200 earpiece cables and I feel 100% certain that if I pull much harder, the cable would get ripped out of the earpiece well before the earpiece came out of the ball-in-socket joint. I'm wondering if you had a lemon.

I guess at this point, we should ask: has anyone else has had problems with the earpiece coming out of the headband?

Not me, but I try not to pull on it

Everything apart from the headband is plastic. However the PX's are surprisingly durable. The ball and socket arrangement is also ingeniously simple: the socket construction acts as strain relief to a certain degree when the cup (and therefore the ball) is positioned beyond typical attitudes.

My only structural problem with my first PX200 was that the headband wouldn't extend far enough to fit me. That I realised was due to a very stiff last detent which I never discovered until I was on my second set.

Well I can't answer your plastic or metal question since I left my pair at work yesterday, but maybe another vote for very durable will help put your mind at ease. I've had mine for a year and they saw some pretty hard use when I first got them and they are still very solid. I've never had a problem with them.

btw, I found that 12-24 hours of burn in time was needed to get them sounding their best.

and..one more vouch for durability. I have been pretty rough on my PX200 - usually catching the cord on my knee as I stand up and thereby giving the cord a pretty hard yank. I have long since lost the plastick carrying case and sometimes just wrap the cord around the folded drivers and carry them as is in my front pants pocket. These are my only phones that have been subjected to such treatment but they just keep on keeping on.

I have both the PX100 and PX200 in my packpack w/out the case. I find them to be very durable all things considered. I've accidentally jerked the cord a few times without any problems.

I found the PX200's needed about 40 hours of burn in... although it wasn't till the last 5 or 6 (when I cranked the volume) that I noticed any change in sound... I almost returned them actually. Anyway, they sound great now.
