For what it's worth, having finally listened to the LCD-XCs... if the Alpha Dogs are even remotely close (which all comments seem to imply), they would be my choice if budget only allowed for them. Though, I do think that you will notice that they are "heavy" compared to the HD650s.

I've been recently looking for similar closed back headphone and it wasn't easy as i though. I've checked lot's of closed back including few mentioned here - Shure SRH840, Audeze LCD-XC etc. I found SRH-840 to have this low mids bump that make it really muddy. Audeze LCD-XC on the other hand are a little bit too recessed in the mids (but still great headphones that beats all other closed back on the market in any other aspects). I haven't found anything as good as HD650 which makes me really sad as i need to go closed back.
Haven't heard Alpha Dogs but if they will be available anywhere in EU i will check them out.

There appears to be a company over in the Netherlands that might carry them

I will say that I definitely still love my HD650s, did a fair bit of switching back and forth last night and the 650s are just such an enjoyable headphone.
You might ask someone more specifically whether or not the ADs are less "recessed" in the mids than the XCs.

Take a Shure SRH 840, be happy.
I'm looking at K550 since my SRH840s just broke. Just throwing that out there. The plastic ratcheting part that the cups attach to snapped. Co-worker has 550 and can feel the difference in sturdiness. No complaints about the sound on the 840s though or it's price.

If you want to listen to the alphadogs in the Netherlands you should go to Zoetermeer. Hifistudio79 has them reach to listen to. This is where i found out my amp was not sufficient for the MrSpeakers Alphadogs

Picked up a pair of Shure SRH 1540's and I am blown away. Quite similar to the HD650 but with a little more treble.

Sony MDR-1R has similar presentation, warm sound, present and clear voices, natural timbre, very enjoyable.

Of all the closed-backs I have heard, Momentum Over-Ears have the closest sound signature, whereas the HD250 Linear II (1991-95) have the closest soundstage and imaging to the HD650. Good luck with finding a 1991-95 HD250 II, although eugenius has a 2001-07 HD250 II NIB with attached pro mic for 225 euros shipped.

Just in case you wanted a HD250 II now. See his profile and feedback as well.

I am in the same boat. Have the HD650s and I love the sound. But the leak a bit too much for office use, So I am looking for something that sounds similar but doesnt leak as much which means closed.
Is there something in the sub $500 range that does that. What about the sennheiser 380 pros?
How do they compare to the beyer custom one? Are they real alternatives to the HD650s?
Or should I just stop looking and save up for some $500+ ones?
