Then the second question remains, regarding the scaling.  It's known that just about all headphones scale, but they scale by a different "factor".  From the little that I read on the PM-1 thread, it was stated that they did scale, but not as well as others.  But I personally don't have any experience with this.

I attribute the "myth" that the PM-1 and PM-2 don't scale well to their efficiency.

If we were talking about really inefficient headphones, the results heard by nearly everyone when using typical headphone amps could be improved by using less typical, more powerful headphone amps.

But if the headphone is so efficient that the majority of headphone amps already provide plenty of power, going to even more power misleads everyone into believing that this efficient headphone "doesn't scale well."

Try using a really weak amp with the PM-2 first - like the Sansa Clip+ or an iPod, or even the Sony PHA-2 with its paltry 90mW into 16-Ohm output - then move the PM-2 to a typical headphone amp that's putting out 300 to 500mW.  You will definitely hear it scale up with the increase in power, but once you get to somewhere between 500mW and 1000mW with the PM-1 or PM-2, you've pretty much arrived.  There's not much benefit to going beyond 1000mW, which Audeze recommends as the minimum for the LCD-2.

In short, I think the PM-1 / PM-2 scale every bit as much as other orthos, but you're not going to hear a difference if you start out using all the power they need and go up from there.

If interested, I have two pair of 2.5mm mono to Amphenol male mini xlr adapters with neutral pure copper Litz wire.  They are about 6" long.  I will sell for material cost and $5 shipping....they work very well with Audeze type female mini xlr aftermarket cables.  If interested send me a PM, I don't need them any longer!

The PM-1 response with alternative lambskin (PM-2 tuned_ ear pads for example are not shown.

Got it. Just went to Tyll's page and read up on it. Now I wish I heard the PM-1 again with the alternate PM-1 pads. I think it'll change my opinion of the PM-1 and the rating I gave it in my review. Would love to compare the PM-1 & PM-2 too with the alt pads.

Will need to see how the various pads measure on the PM-1 itself, preferably with compensated graphs (these aren't), to verify if the two HPs should indeed sound near identical or not given the same pads. Otherwise, definitely interesting results on the PM-2 itself.

I thought this was a PM-1 measurement and not a PM-2.

If you look closely at the top of the graph, it says, "...Various Oppo pads done with a PM-2." Tyll said he will be digging further into PM-1/2 differences in his PM-2 review, though it may be a little while.

Did I mention that I really like my pair of PM-2 ?

The PM-2 are slightly less refined sounding than the HE-560 but for the 'fun' factor I definitively prefer the PM-2.  (Not anymore, I now prefer the HE-560 since I have received my Lyr 2)
