budget around $200-$250
iPad 2 is main source of listening
all genres but mostly hip-hop/r&b/electronic/pop
how's the DT770?
do I need an amp for DT770 + ipad 2?

I hope you guys don't tell me the ipad 2 is no good

Are they for portable use? there's different versions of the DT770 being the 32 ohm the easiest model to drive. The Pro 80 (80 ohms) benefits from some extra juice.

Are you looking for a closed back headphone ?

if you dont care about sound isolation. you can look into an open back headphone for more natural listening experience.

Fidelio X1 might probably suit you, if you dont mind having an open back option.

Yamaha pro500 for closed
Hifiman he300 and 400 for open
The hifimans will need an amp. Something like the c&c bh2 or fiio e11 should work

they will be used at home only. and only with my ipad 2

I don't need sound isolation at all

now that I think about it, a bigger soundstage than the ATH M50 would be great

If you spend a little more you might be able to get a pair of Grado SR325is.

Grados won't work well with music with heavy basslines

If you don't care about isolation, an open can would be better

It really depends on the specific model but closed headphones tend to have more

If you are a fan of bass head cans it won't be a good idea
