Will my headphone amp do for HE500s?

Hi

I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of Hifiman HE500 headphones. I currently listen through an HRT microstreamer into a Litttle Dot 1+. The Little Dot is a lovely thing, but it is not particularly loud. In your esteemed opinions, should I be looking to upgrade?

Many thanks

The he500 is a fantastic hp...great choice. The LD1+ will not have enough current for it though. To recommend an upgrade. You'll need to say what your budget is and whether you're looking for solid state or tube amp.

Thanks for the fast reply! I'm easy as to tube v solid state: though I do like the warmth of tubes, I wouldn't rule out SS at all. Budget would be around the 300GBP mark I guess. The problem is I live in Dubai so auditioning is not that easy....

Okay, so about $500 us? That's a good budget. It will be hard to beat the schiit lyr at $450. It uses tubes (2) on the output stage but its technically a hybrid configuration. It's a beast at 6 watts into 32 ohms and has great synergy with the he500. I owned that combo for a long while and loved it.

I'm sure the LD will be decent, it pushes 600-700 mW at 32 ohm if I remember correctly.

I think Burson have a retailer on Dubai. Give the Soloist SL a shot.

The Schiit Asgard 2 makes an excellent pairing with the HE-500.  The Lyr is a good deal more money.  You can use its extra power for an HE-6, but don't need it for the HE-500.
