If you want an open phone, go for the HD 650, but if you are looking for a closed phone, then get the Momentum. :)

Question out of the 650/Momentum's, which is better than the 558's? Thanks.

Well, in terms of sound quality, the HD 650 is definitely superior (to both the Momentum and 558).

Thanks for answering. One last question, how much better is the 700 compared to the 650, and how much better is the 800 compared to the 700?

The 700's are a big step up in detail from when I auditioned them with 650's as well... but they have a goofy treble range that is fatiguing at anything above a 'moderate' listening level. The 800's, when paired with an amp that synergizes well, is considered by a quite a few to be the top of headphone-dom, and arguable the best dynamic driver headphone. I need to audition a pair!

I haven't heard the HD 700 actually, but I owned the HD 800 for almost 2 years and it's a really outstanding headphone. Based on what I've heard and read from others, I would skip the HD 700 and go straight to the HD 800 if you ever consider spending a huge amount on headphones.

Thanks for responding. That sounds good, I really want the 800's but the high price tag seems way too high for me right now at this point... maybe in the future though. Unless you know of a site or way to get them cheaper. And how are the 650's compared to the 800's?

The HD800 is extremely revealing, which was something I really loved about that phone, although some don't prefer that aspect of it. It's incredibly comfortable, and the soundstage is enormous. It's basically everything good about the HD650 just taken up a notch or two (or three) tongue.gif It does sound brighter sometimes.

HD700 is used as a so called "marketing decoy". They introduced it to fill the price gap between the HD800 and HD650. That way HD800 doesnt seem as outrageously priced and people will be like: "HD800 is only a couple hundred bucks more than HD700, it's a steal!" HD700 wasn't meant to put anything noteworthy to the table in terms of sound reproduction.
