Ok, I need some advice. I never owned a good headphone before, I'm looking for a circumaural headphone that doesnt need a amp on the range of $200~$400. I'm only gonna use it at house so I guess a open-back is better since I dont care about sound leakage. I listen to a lot of kinds of music. I'm researching and HD 598 looks like a good pick, but are there better options?

Thanks.

What sources exactly will the headphones be plugged into?

You said open but I really think the NAD Visio HP50's are and absolute steal at $300.

(I found mine online "open box" full warranty - $219)

Very easy to drive from any source.

It seems that many open phones really sound best when amped...do you have anything specific against closed-backs?  The NAD HP50's definitely seem to be getting a fair amount of love recently, as do the AKG 551/545.  I listen to my Beyer DT770 Pros straight out of my phone when doing stuff around the apartment and I think they sound fantastic for a wide range of genres.  The Beyers can be found fairly cheap as well.
