"Closed HD600"

Bought an excellent HD600 this April which I liked very much.
But moved to different apartment with quite a noisy street. So cant really enjoy them now neither at home or work.
What is the current "closed HD600" models you guys recommend?

Budget < 400 EUR

Current setup: Audio GD Compass 2 at home and Xonar U7→ Meier PCSTEP at work

I think the Sennheiser Momentum comes pretty close in FR due to the slightly veiled treble, but I would recommend a well modified T20/50RP MKii over it, due to having a better soundstage.

Also a T50RP can be tuned to your taste depending on the experience of the modder.

I have no experience with modding and lack courage to attempt any.
So Momentum it is.. But tbh i'm a bit tired of Sennheiser brand as all my headphones used to be senns.

What about Beyerdynamics, AKG, Audio Technica?

Well I don't know exactly how close they are to the 600's, but it looks like the NAD VISO HP50, Focal Spirit Classic, and Focal Spirit Professional are all in your price range (see Inner Fidelity's Wall of Fame).

If nothing else, you have a few more models to check out that aren't Sennheiser.

Momentum sounds much more similar to HD650. (It also has very small earpads.)

I have FSP. It's different from HD600--much more punchy. It sounds as if Cardas had a hand in it, but it probably results from being closed. Supposedly this is true of the Classic too. And the earpads are only slightly larger than Momentum. I enjoy it, but I wonder if the NAD sounds more like a Sennheiser.

Since I esteem HD600, I'm curious to see what others with come up with.

Check out the Beyerdynamic DT250. It's often said that it sounds like a closed HD600. Someone even preferred it to the HD600 in that thread.

I appreciate the irony of this statement.

(the Momentum sounds much more like HD600's closest sibling in the whole universe) ;)

Did some reading over the weekend for proposed headphones:

Alpha Dogs — way over my budget (one used pair is on sale here for 500 euro MIN)

NAD VISO HP50, Focal Spirit Professional and Momentum — all seem to be very uncomfortable (i really like comfy qualities of HD600) plus FSP super fragile, while Focal Spirit Classic is not exactly i'm after for.

Beyerdynamic DT250 — got very confused about it, most people prefer DT770 to it because it's more spacy, comfy and UNbreakable, while majority of the people here agree that DT770 is just super plain bad headphones overall :)

I doubt HP50 is particularly uncomfortable. I thought the earpads are the same size as M50. So it's probably still your best bet.

Neither Beyer is anything like HD600.

Momentum is only uncomfortable for people with dumbo ears. (revenge time! for being accused of having 'smurf ears' in another thread months ago :P)

Basically if your ears are 65mm tall or less, you should find them comfy, if not then give it a pass.

Mine are 65mm tall, which is already 5mm more than the opening of the ear pads, but I can wear them comfortably all day long, provided it's not the middle of summer.

Yamaha hph mt220 thread (Merged)

love this headfone..tall spacious enveloping balanced sounding. v easy to power, off a fone or laptop.

(DT250 was my first headfone, i think there are better headfones out there these days.)

DT770, i like the 600ohms version, needs an amp though...great for big orchestra music.

Thank for a great hint. There is something noble about owning a Yamaha headphones.
The only strange thing that all MT220 lovers in mentioned thread ultimately ended up selling their MT220 which is not quite a good sign

I recently got the PSB M4U and they remind me of the HD600s a fair bit. Balanced sound, a bit more bass and smaller soundstage given that they're closed, but very enjoyable. And they actually fit my ears unlike the Momentums

Sure, I guess I'll wait until some kind soul from Europe will put MT220 on sale.
