Deciding the amp for a sansa clip + m50

Hello guys!

I've got a sansa clip+ rockboxed, with a pair of at athm50 (i've also got a pair of sennheiser 598 and some other low-impendance earbuds).

I want to buy an amp for using also with my iphone/ipod/notebook. A dac-amp is useless imho, because sansa can't use the dac, and for my pc i've already got a nuforce udac 2.

But..i don't know what amp i should buy :D maybe a FiiO E6? Or the E11? I think that E12 is really overkill for a sansa, and especially for the 38ohm of the m50.

What do u think?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my english!

See these two amp shootouts, rankings follow the review:

I have a C&C BH, which is quite nice for the price given its battery life. The E11 sounds very good, too.

thanks for the answer! :D

Mmm..I saw the review.

I'm a little doubtful.. I was reading that the FiiO E6 is better than the e11 for the ath m50.

But i guess that I have to consider the music that i usually listen! Because some amps are neutral, and some are more warm.

In other words, i usually listen to rock, metal and use my clip+ with the earburds, but i've got also a pair of ath m50, sennheiser amperior and a seen hd 598.

So..you guess that i'm ok with the sansa rockboxed, or an amp (maybe more warm?) can be useful?

I have a Clip+ and a Clip Zip. I don't use an amp with them for most of my headphones--only my HE-400s, which are very insensitive and need the extra power. I just don't like to deal with carrying an amp, too, unless absolutely necessary. Sort of takes away from the small size portability of the Clips.

I don't know anything about the E6 being better than the E11 for the M50s. I buy amps based on overall SQ, not some synergy that one or two people feel an amp had with a headphone. So I go for the better amp.

Thanks ;) so..i'll see, a friend of mine advised me of the hippo box amp..i don't know how sound, but for the clip is cool! Is very small, and surely better than the fiio e6. Maybe i'll buy it, i will see some review!

ClieOS that did the portable amp shootouts doesn't seem particularly excited about it: http://www.inearmatters.net/2010/09/short-impression-hippo-box-and-govibe_22.html

Just because something costs more in the audio world, that doesn't mean it's better smily_headphones1.gif

mmm..I see.

Nice, thanks for the advise ;)

I'm trying to contact a friend that has got that hippo box, otherwise with the price of the hippo box I can buy a FiiO E11 or just..the E6. Is small and perfect for the sansa.

I don't imagine your friend will have listened to tons of amps. ClieOS has wink.gif

I used a FiiO E6 with my Clip Zip, really did not seem to make a difference.

So I went back to plugging headphones straight into the Clip Zip.

So I would suggest if your going to get an amplifier, at least spend the cash for the FiiO E11.

ok guys..thank you for your answer.

I think I'll buy the E11, it's price-quality is very good :D maybe a little bit too big respect the sansa clip, but it's not a problem I guess.

You could always take the clip off the clip and velcro the clip to the E11 biggrin.gif

yeah i saw it on google images :D

mh, a question guys..sure, i don't think I will buy it for the cost, but e12 is an upgrade of the e11 or just sound 'different'?

Is very cool but...it's huge respect the sansa, and has the price of two e11

If you were using high impedance (Ohm) headphones, then the E12 might be more worth it.

My FiiO E11 can drive my 250-Ohm headphones with the volume knob at around 40% and I'm assuming your current headphones are easier to drive then my 250-ohm headphones.

So the E12 might be a little overkill.

cool! oh yes, more more easier  :D so nice, e11 seems perfect. I'll buy it with a fiio l8+l9.

uhm..I have to put maximum volume on sansa, and controls it with fiio right?

Better to have the source on as high a volume setting as possible (like 75%) and use the E11 as the volume control.

For your notebook, you might consider getting a ELE EL-D01 USB DAC (to use between the notebook and E11), sells for around $12, on eBay.
