Well, it is a decent stack. So no problems there.

Other alternatives I can think of are the IM03-04 and maybe the FX850 if you really like realistic timbre. Look up the Zero Audio offerings too, Singulo and Doppios are very impressive for their price.

Lastly,in addition to the extra costs already mentioned, if you dislike the Iem, you would also need to sell at quite a loss to get rid of them. Unless you really understand what you're getting into, or have already auditioned them beforehand.

ER4S is the 100 Ohm version of the ER4PT (27 Ohm). The latter comes with a converter cable that adds resistance to make the PT respond like the S. I use my ER4S with the X3/E12 combo and am very happy with this setup. My taste in music tends toward the classical/jazz side so the flat sound signature of the Etymotic IEM is great IMHO. You may prefer something with a bit more bass response. Have you checked out joker's sublime post on IEMs? You are probably right for IEM with impedance <50 Ohm, but I had a notable improvement after adding E12 to my 100 Ohm Etymotic ER4S. The same would be true for ER4PT with inline ER38-24 (37 Ohm to 100 Ohm resistor cable that comes with ER4PT). Cheers... Brian

i dont think so...i have both and i personaly like the sound straight through the headphone output of fiio x5 more than the e12. If you use iems e12 is useless...

dude he meant the Momentum's headphones Over the Ear. no the IEMs Momentum.

and actually would like to know that as well for my B&W P7.

i would still suggest not buying e12. X5 's headphone amp is wonderfull, perhaps a little less analytical but i think with wider soundstage.  I dont think spending more money is really usefull...unless you do it just out of curiosity or you have enough money to spare :-P  ...

Wider stage compared to what? I think everything sounds closer and more analytical actually.

i think it has wider soundstage than e12 amp. e12 sound a little congested, although it is cleaner, more analytical with better separation. But it has noticable hiss with low impedance headphones. Fiio x5 headphone output is absolutely black. i generally dont think that if someone has iem should upgrade to e12. although if you want to drive for example hd650 or akg k702 an external amp is a must, and the fiio e12 is a really nice one to buy...
