We were talking balanced line out, folks. Adding balanced headphone output would be much harder. I suppose I could ask him if there could be two versions of the mod.

To clarify, though, wouldn't this just be a matter of adding the jack in AFTER the amp section (in the circuit), rather than before it? If this is the case, then it should be fairly easy to have two versions of the mod.

I would love to know how he plans to provide a usable balanced out.  The DX90 is balanced into the LPF but not out.

I can ask him...this was more of an interest thread, though. I didn't think we were asking for finalized designs at this point. He hasn't even gotten enough interest to actually look at a research unit. Either way, I'll ask him.

Added a poll on page one with choices as to what you'd like in a mod.

Also,

I should remind you all that Vinnie warranties his work for LIFE of the device, so a big part of any incurred cost is upfront coverage of the mod.

yea that would be a challenge i suppose. Changing the amp and buffers to dual channel ones would be easy, but tricky part is changing the surrounding circuitry to support balanced. But Hes done it on other daps so why not the dx90.

Mods like that are significantly more time/labor intensive, and also more difficult to provide warranty care for, right? Probably the reason the cost is relatively reasonable now is that we're not asking for a whole lot. I've asked Vinnie though, so we'll see.

Btw, are either of you (Solude and Trance) interested in the mod at this point? Should I add you both to the list? This way I can get the unit sent over sooner and Vinnie can begin answering questions in greater detail.

woops I didn't do my research, seems he only did balanced line out on the AK120, no balanced phone out. So most likely impossible on the DX90 also.

I'll have to pass. I'm happy how my DX90 sounds, the amp is plenty beefy enough for iems which I mostly use. I can't justify having to strap an amp to the DX90. And I doubt that a balanced phone out is possible.

Hi Everyone,

So I've had a bit of a family emergency and for that reason I'll be selling off my portable rig. I know others who were interested volunteered their units for research. If you are willing to take my place as the research unit, please PM me and I will contact you when the list is filled so we can send your unit to VInnie. Please let me know if you're interested. I will continue to moderate this thread for the sake of "science" though :)

Welp,

Vinnie looked over the diagram on the DX90 page and found that because of the LPF implementation, not even a balanced line out would be possible. Looks like this was an effort in vain :(. I guess this thread should be locked now! Mods, please close the thread. Apologies for any high hopes, everyone.

Any other mod option? I am still interested in increased capacity honestly.

I suppose you could ask Vinnie. I think you'd be better off running OTG and a 128GB microSD, cost-wise...

OTG sucks the battery, which is something already low on DX90.
