guidance in choosing new headphones appreciated!

Hi! I use a lot of public transport which is noisy but is where I do a good part of my listening, so I'm looking for closed cans, or any that isolate well. I have been using the ATH-M50 for this but I would like to step up.

I listen to many different music genres, I couldn't narrow them down.

I'll briefly tell you what I think of my current hp's.

ATH-M50: I would like more liquid mids, controlled bass and airier highs. Not much eh!? :D

DT990: These are the ones I enjoy most, but I would like more liquid mids as well. I wan't women voices to make me melt! I also think They are a little bright every time I put them on, but after a few songs I get used to it. These have the better soundstage and imaging, which is something I love to pay attention to, so I would like more!

FA-011: I think these have too much bass, which is not bad only for a few things. I like the mids on these more than on the others.

Form2: I haven't heard them in a while, but I remember that when I started using the M50's I missed their mids, and some sense ef being involved in the music.

My main source will be the DX100, and I don't think I will upgrade any time soon. Unless a DX200 comes out!

And well, the tough part: I'd like to keep my budget for around 1000 USD. I read a lot about the Fostex TH-900 and it seems to be really interesting, but it seems they dont isolate much and I dont like the finish very much. My budget might stretch If it needs to.

I'm reading the TH-600 thread but I'm only in page 31, I still have a long way to go.

So I appreciate any comments that might help me choose!

Thanks

FA011 and DT990 are open.backed and frankly speaking quite big.

It will be difficult to compare an closed headphone to an open air one.

I suggest giving the Shure 1540 and the NAD HP50 a try. Curious to your comparisons...

I know they are different, I just thought that by telling you what I would like compared to them, it might give you a better idea of what I would like. Good isolation together with good soundstage and open sound is not going to be easy to find, but I would like a good compromise between both.

Thanks for your comments!

I don't really mind the size! As long as they stay on my head, which is rather small that is
