Headphone Cables with 4 Pole 3.5mm Male Connectors--Compatibility Questions

Thread Starter
Am using cables with 3 Pole 3.5mm male connectors on all of my headphones and devices.
Am looking for some replacement cables and have noted that many come with 4 Pole 3.5mm connectors. Apparently the 4th pole is for microphones, which I don't use.

Questions are:
Will the 4 pole connectors fit into standard 3 pole jacks? Are they the same length?
Will the 4 pole connectors "short out" the 3 pole jacks?

'Just trying to determine compatibility and consider all buying options.
Asked same questions on another forum and didn't get any helpful or direct answers.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Will the 4 pole connectors fit into standard 3 pole jacks? Are they the same length?  Yes. Fitting into a standard TRS socket is not an issue.

Will the 4 pole connectors "short out" the 3 pole jacks? I have asked similar question to one of the manufacturer and their answer is its fine to use TRRS on TRS socket. It will turn into standard TRS connection. But I am not sure whether this is true as my personal experience is its not working properly. I am still figuring out this issue.
