I own both the k550 and the m50, they are my first quality headphones. I use a budget syba dac amp at work. I know you wound up getting the k550 how do you like them? I strongly suggest trying to audition the m50 if you can. In researching my first headphones I thought a big soundstage and a neutral sound signature would be best for me. I also bought the k550 refurbished for 130 and honestly I struggled to enjoy them. The very flat and neutral sound was a bit boring to me. So I ran over to guitar center and tried the m50, beyerdynamic dt880 and custom one pro. Upon listening to the m50 I knew they were for me. I find the warmer sound signature abd harder hitting bass more fun. I kept the k550 in the hope I will learn to better appreciate them. But for first pair of good headphones I'd go with the m50. It's a great starter pair and once you better learn what you want/like, you can upgrade then. Just my. 02.

the set I got is broken and has a really quiet right cup :P When I initially put them on I really didn't like them. Like I thought the sound quality was worse than my $30 Klipsh Image One's. However I've worn them for a couple days despite the broken right speaker, and I must say the neutral but clear sound is really growing on me. Sucks that they're broken. I'm planning to return them, because I'm going to be out of the country for the summer so I don't want to order another set and risk them not arriving before I leave. However, when I return I think I might audition the M50 and/or buy another set of the K550. I do have some friends who own M50's going to different schools, but maybe if I see them over break, they'll let me try them on.
