Now back to the regularly scheduled thread about DAPs that I will not be buying anytime soon.  :-)

It doesnt hurt to email them to ask if u want to get the M asap

The first time I heard the AK240 at the So Cal Head Fi Meet Up (quieter show) it was through a balanced connection to HD800's, and the difference between that sound and my own HD800's and AK120 was pretty large.

But this morning, through unfamiliar IEM's, single-ended connection, in a noisy room, the differences were smaller. I'd say that's normal. There's no question the later players can outperform the earlier ones. And with certain equipment and circumstances those differences are very important.

I mostly listen to my bigger, harder to drive phones only at home or work, and mostly from the Hugo. The AK120 does more duty in airplanes and on a bike and with easier to drive IEM's. So for me the upgrade isn't as important.

I'm sure if I had an AK240 I would get more quality time with it than I do the AK120.

You're making me want to run back down there and take advantage of the show special. I had myself talked out of it!

Are these shows open to public? Do they have these shows in NYC ?

They're using same DAC chips and same interface.

Noisy room...the key of why there is little difference between the machines.  The advantages that 240 over the others are the minute details in display only can be found when you can "hear" them with the right environment.   I've auditioned the 240 for 45 minutes in the shop and it did not impress me to the point that I bought it on the spot only I've found its finesses after the ownership (when I can't hold on to resist the craving).

Because it costs more?  :D

What about the amp sections? Would there be a different between the ak120 ll and ak240?

AK120II = AK240 - XMOS

Circuit wise anyway.  Also differences in build quality and memory.

Also, no native DSD.

120ll converts DSD to PCM before DAC to analogue.

That's why he said minus XMOS, because that chip provides native DSD playback feature.

Morning Sam, I admittedly am a fanboy of a few gears.......my FitEar TO GO 334s, LCD3s, PWD MK II, and now my UM Miracles. I say now, because hearing them balanced out of the AK240 changed them from very good to great. The 240 has also made the 334s better. Listening to DSDs, for the most part ( some are not mastered or the source material is just not good) fantastic. I shake my head in wonder almost every time, because the sound is so good.  I will say that if my home rig is a 10, the AK240 by itself feeding the two IEMs is a solid 9.

I picked up my AK120 II in Hongkong yesterday and I understand it is available in 3 locations currently via Broadway (One of the largest electronics distributor in Hong Kong) For specific locations check www.broadway.com.hk  The 3 stores are in Times Square, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok.

Prices:  AK120 II - HKD13,800:  AK100 II - HKD6,980  (For reference, AK240 silver is HKD20,800 and the limited edition gold colour HKD24,800)
