Brand Spanking New A&K AK120II and AK100II - Page 26

I'd rather buy an AK240 for 200 more dollars but come on iRiver! 2200 dollars? world is going crazy...

You can buy 440 physical CDs on ebay for that money.

You should know by now that the eBay price is not indicative of the real AK120 II pricing but is price gouging levels. So I have no idea what this pricing has to do with iRiver.

Check their tech specs..

Manufacture: Astell&Kern

Part # AK100MKII

  • Portable Music System & External DAC
  • Supports up to 24-bit/192kHz Resolution
  • 2.4" IPS Touchscreen Display
  • 32GB Internal Memory & 2 MicroSD Slots
  • Supports up to 96GB Total Storage
  • Mastering Quality Sound (MQS)
  • Wolfson 8740 DAC
  • USB & TOSlink Optical Input
  • Built-In Digital EQ
  • Brand New

That's the old MK2, not the 2nd Gen one. The pricing itself is a giveaway that it's not the newer version

Am I the only one who thinks it's pure 'genius' [/end sarcasm] to produce AK100 mk2, and then call a completely different newer DAP AK100 II  ?

I thought exactly the same. Marketing must have had a great brainstorming session before arriving at it :D

Judging by the prices they charge their customers, I have a theory, that they may always have this symbol in the middle of their conference room whiteboard:

So, after staring at that symbol every day of their working lives, the 2 lines in that symbol may have become burned onto their retinas.

Hence a brainstorming session for a new AK100 model number could quite easily have ended up as AK100 II

Maybe that old model is so embarassing that they now pretend it never really happened?
