I need to make the text larger, and find a way to make sure all seven icon images are exactly the same. At the moment if you scroll too quickly you see the writing shift a teeny bit.

Nice Work! That looks really clean.

In Matrix news, I am pulling out the modded files 1 by 1 to see when the problem starts occurring.

[EDIT] - Stay tuned everyone, it turns out I might be a complete moron.

Okay, so I put everything out, and then one by one everything back in, Everything was running fine...
Until I put 'Now Playing' in. If I return from the 'Now Playing' menu with a custom size of 'Now Playing' Icon, everything messes up.
But if I theme everything except 'Now Playing', leaving it as the stock Icon, everything is fine.
Returning from all other menus to custom icons does not seem to cause any issue, But if 'Now Playing' is not regulation size, everything is Ganked. It would be great if someone could confirm this on their unit as well because it is an interesting glitch.

EDIT: I halved the size of the custom 'Now Playing' Icon and it works again. So it might be a file size limit not an image width Height limit.

I haven't done any custom mods but here's a thought......

Perhaps the total memory allocation for the menu artwork has been maximized and the 'Now Playing' is the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. Maybe try resizing (reducing) all of the custom menu icons and see if they all can maintain the same size.

Personally, I think it would look smarter with slightly smaller custom menu icons anyway. Your custom mods are brilliant by the way, nice work! Can't wait to see this one working. wink.gif

Thread Starter

When I saw the new X3 firmware it gave me a mod idea. I have no intention of doing it at this moment but here are the mockups. Of course, you are free to do whatever you want with the idea. I just wanted to put it out there.

Variant #1 :

Variant #2 :

The green fill is the current selected item, scrolling would be left to right, top down when turning clockwise.

Of course gradient, color schemes, etc. can be introduced as well as textures. Basically, sky's the limit in terms of preferences but I thought the theme has the potential to be neat while practical. Adding custom/stock icons is also an option.

It's all yours guys if you want to do something with it. I'll tell you if I ever start working on this.

It does seem like you are right, I kept the larger Now Playing Icon and made all the others smaller, low and behold, it works!
Now I just have to figure out how much smaller they all have to be, I liked the clean courier look of the text in big letters.
Will have to adapt.

I'd suggest 25% - 35% smaller. Still large enough to read well yet not too large to slow it down.

Looks like different font and/or smaller font size than the rest of the list-type text on the X5. Maybe use larger font to increase readability.

Yes, I noticed after I had put it all together. I believe Fiio used Microsoft Yawei (or something like that). I was using Office 2013 on my break at work, and it wasn't in the list, so I improvised. Next round I will use my ancient copy of Office 97 which should have the right font...will also be pushing the size up to 12. At the moment I think its 10.

With a LOT of reflashing, testing, lowering of colour depth, sacrificing Black Levels [Which the X5 wasn't showing off anyway],
and some serious file squeezing, I was able to get the total size of the 'Launcher' folder down to 1.25 MB, which means everything is working, with the original text size!
That was an ordeal that I was not expecting, But that's what I get for more than tripling the size of the original files and expecting magic.
I can now move on to the other parts of the OS.
Learn from my example folks!

I realize that this is a thread dealing with visual aspects about the firmware.  But, I am curious if anyone may one day delve into issues dealing with screenreading.  It would be great if someone were to come up with a way to allow spoken cues as to what's on the screen so we can know where we are.

with the firmware "locked" as it is now, this is sadly not possible.

we need to get into the encrypted parts and find the file that tells the system to put image.png where they are needed, and add an mp3 to those locations.

so when you are on the homescreen and you scroll to the "nowplaying" icon, it should also open "nowplaying.mp3"

this is all theorethical though, as i don't know how it was all coded, and FiiO can't reveal it to us.

sadly still haven't had the time to look at your firmware, but were the images 1 on 1 with the X5 screen resolution?

The font file is in the firmware folders once unpacked. You can install it in your system and use it in Office 2013. Just right click on the font file and choose "install" (apologies if you knew this already and there are other reasons for it not appearing)

Thanks.  I didn't think of that.  Maybe, I'll drop a friendly note to FiiO.  I know there's little demand for such modification, but you never know.
