Except that the Continentals dont really have a very tube-like sound - atleast not to my ears.
That classic "tube sound" generally refers to the sound from single-ended triodes ilike 2A3s and 300Bs in the output stage - they run at a plate voltage of 250V, and it is kinda hard to do that in a portable device, which typically have tube amps in the input stage. I have yet to come across any portable tube amp which has anything like the classic tube sound, to be honest.
